The first lesson of the Harvard Project Manager
3.0 Tutorial provides some background. There
are a few things you should know about running
this Tutorial.

Tutorial window say what to do next.
For example, to continue to the next
screen, press the Space bar. Try it.

In some lessons, you do some of the
typing. Don't worry about mistakes.
If you press the wrong key, nothing
happens. Type the correct key to
continue with the lesson.

You can move to the next Tutorial
window quickly. Each time you press
the Space bar, the Tutorial supplies
the right character -- as if you had
pressed the correct key.

Each lesson takes only five or ten
minutes to complete. When you get to
the end of a lesson, you return to
the Tutorial menu.
At the Tutorial menu, you can select a
different lesson or exit from the
Tutorial.
To quit a lesson before completing it,
press the F9 key. This returns you to
the Tutorial menu.

When you started the Tutorial, you also
started HPM 3.0. As you go through each
lesson, you actually use HPM 3.0.
When you exit from the Tutorial, you also
exit from HPM 3.0. To create your own
project, restart HPM 3.0 following the
instructions in your manual.

In the tutorial you try out a variety of functions,
using many of HPM's keys and key combinations.
Don't worry about remembering all the keys. Later
when you create your own projects, you can:

■ display the ~on-screen Help index~2 (press
Shift-F1) and select any of several topics
on cursor movement.

several different windows in HPM 3.0. Look for the
name of the window in

Like many windows in HPM 3.0, the Project list
contains a ~menu bar~2 at the top of the screen.
You ~pull down~2 a menu from this menu bar using
the function key listed next to the menu name.

Take a closer look at the menu bar.
All menu bars show ~F1-Help~2 as their first
selection. More on that one later.
First, pull down the Files menu.

After a menu is pulled down, you can pull down a
different menu by selecting another function key or
by using the Left and Right Arrow keys.
For example, you could use the F3 key to pull down
the Directories menu, but for now use an Arrow key.

Select a function on a pull-down menu just as
you select from the Main Menu:
■ move the triangular cursor and press Enter, or

If you change your mind about using a menu, remove
it without making a selection by using the Esc key.
Remove the Directories menu now.

underscore) shows where you

calendar name in the field.
Often, HPM supplies a
typical value, called a
~default~2. HPM uses the
default value unless you
change it.

The bottom line of the
fill-in lists the keys used
to remove the fill-in and
cancel your selection, or
to confirm the information.

Use the Erase speed

calendar. For this lesson,
use the standard calendar.

This is HPM's Calendar form. Its menu bar has
only two choices. Now examine the wallchart.

The Calendar wallchart shows months of the year.
Look at its menu bar--with seven choices.
Pull down the Edit menu.

The Edit menu has three functions. You use them
often when working with the wallchart, so each has
a ~speed key~2 associated with it.
The speed key appears next to its selection. For
example, ~Find date~2 has the speed key of ~Ctrl-F~2,
and the other two both use ~Ctrl-H~2 (like a switch).
Remove the Edit pull-down menu to try one.
